Sheffield Wednesday: Are They Just Un-Luhukay?

Sheffield Wednesday fans have hit the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows (or at least that's what it feels like) over the past four seasons.

Just over four and a half years ago, Dejphon Chansiri bought Wednesday and invested heavily over the following summer, on and off the pitch, with the ambition of reaching the Premier League.

But after back-to-back play off campaigns, the Owls struggled to their lowest finish since the 2013/14 season, sacking Carlos Carvalhal in the process and appointing Jos Luhukay.

Wednesday ended last season as the second most inform side in the league behind champions Wolves.

This restored hope back into the fans that they may be equip to make a play off push in the 2018/19 season.

So far, this has been far from the case for the South Yorkshire outfit.

Luhukay's men have only won one of their last Championship fixtures, and have only acquired two clean sheets over the course of the season.

The latest fixture saw the Owls play Rotherham United at Hillsborough, where despite taking the lead, Wednesday conceded two goals after half time to put them 2-1 down.

This sparked chants from the home fans towards Luhukay: "You're getting sacked in the morning".

A poll that was conducted that afternoon found that 86% of Wednesdayites would sack Jos Luhukay if they had the choice.

Performances have definitely been underwhelming at S6, and this response was definitely expected.

If Jos Luhukay was the to lose his job, the front runner seems to be ex-Hull City manager Steve Bruce.

Bruce was in charge of the Tigers when they beat Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley in the play off final.

It is rumored that Bruce has spoken to a representative at Hillsborough about a potential vacancy.

In my opinion, if Luhukay was to be sacked, and they had the opportunity to bring Bruce in, Dejphon Chansiri would be daft not to.

His CV speaks for itself (just the four promotions from the Championship).

He also is a big admirer of frozen-out shot-stopper Keiren Westwood, and star midfielder Barry Bannan.

However, it is unlikely that Chansiri will sack Luhukay before Saturdays trip to Swansea, but there is definite pressure on the Dutchman, even if it is just from the supporters.
