International Break Preview: Papa John’s Trophy to Host Yorkshire Derby

Simon Weaver's Harrogate vs Grant McCann's Hull in the Papa John's Trophy.

On Tuesday night, all eyes will be on the newly-named, Papa John’s Trophy, as it plays host to a Yorkshire derby between Harrogate Town and Hull City at Wetherby Road.

Both sides were in action in the FA Cup last time out, with Harrogate beating Skelmersdale United 4-1 and Hull winning 2-0 against Fleetwood Town.

The Sulphurites cruised into the second round after goals from Calvin Miller, Mark Beck, Jack Lawlor, and Aaron Martin before conceding deep into second half stoppage time.

The Tigers coasted past Fleetwood at the KCOM Stadium with goals from Josh Magennis and Reece Burke.

Group H sees Harrogate sit top, after a 2-2 draw (but defeat on penalties) to Grimsby Town and a 3-1 win over Leicester City u21s.

Hull find themselves bottom of Group F after losing late on to Leicester City u21s, however they have only played one game.

A win for Hull City is vital if they have any ambition of getting through the group, whilst a win for Harrogate will see them through to the knockout stages.

It is all to play for in Group F of the Papa John’s Trophy with three sides battling for second spot.

Bradford celebrate against Tonbridge Angels.

League Two sides Bradford City and Oldham Athletic face off as the top two sides in the group.

Group winners, Oldham, avoided FA Cup embarrassment at the weekend, beating Hampton and Richmond Borough 3-2 away from home.

Whilst Braford obliterated FA Cup opponents, Tonbridge Angels 7-0, with goals from Anthony O’Connor, Billy Clarke (twice), Clayton Donaldson, Austin Samuels, Harry Pritchard, and Connor Wood.

The Latics are yet to concede a goal in the Papa John’s Trophy this season, whilst also putting four past Wolves u21s and two past Doncaster Rovers.

The Bantams sit second on goal difference after drawing (losing on penalties) both of their previous fixtures.

Reece James chases the ball down for Donny.

Elsewhere in the group, Doncaster Rovers face Wolves u21s as both sides look to progress to the next round of the competition.

Rovers came out 5-1 winners away at FC United of Manchester on Saturday in the FA Cup.

Fejiri Okenabirhie, Ben Whiteman, Josh Sims (twice) and James Coppinger grabbed the goals for Donny as they coasted to victory.

Wolves u21s lost 4-0 to Oldham Athletic in their first Papa John’s Trophy match but managed a penalty win against Bradford City, meaning they only sit behind Doncaster and Bradford on goal difference.

Doncaster managed to also overcome Bradford on penalties but lost 2-0 to Oldham.

The permutations of the two fixtures mean that Bradford City need to equal or better the result of Doncaster Rovers vs Wolves u21s, but if the Bantams don’t win, then the winner of the Doncaster vs Wolves u21s game will go through.
