Boro doubled their lead midway into the second half after a low cross by Marvin Johnson was flicked in by Rams defender Matt Clarke.
Johnson then got himself onto the scoresheet after he cut inside onto his left foot and bent a delicious shot into the top corner.
Middlesbrough now sit in seventh in the table.
Elsewhere in the Championship, Huddersfield Town were held to a 0-0 draw at Adams Park against Wycombe Wanderers.
Both sides had plenty of decent chances but in the end neither side could break the deadlock, with the best effort coming from Naby Sarr striking the ball against the post after an Isaac Mbenza cross.
The Terriers did have a couple of close calls, none more so than when Jonathan Hogg had to clear a miskick off the line deep into the second half.
The result means Huddersfield sit in 16th in the league.

Calvin Miller scored the only goal of the game, sliding in low into the six-yard box after a Jack Muldoon cross.
The Sulphurites had the lion share of the chances and on another day could have extended their advantage.
The result means that Harrogate Town move into the top half of the table.
Bradford City lost 1-0 to Leyton Orient at the Breyer Group Stadium on Tuesday.
