Harrogate Town ended their long winless run on Tuesday night, beating promotion-chasing Exeter City at the St. James Park in League Two.
Brendan Kiernan got the opening goal of the game just after the half hour mark, turning well and striking low inside the area past the Grecian’s ‘keeper.
The hosts did manage to equalise straight after half time, with Jake Taylor being the man in the right place to prod the ball into the net.
Jack Muldoon put the Sulphurites back into the lead just 15 minutes from time, running past two defenders before placing the ball into the top corner from eight yards out.
Harrogate survived the late push for an equaliser by the hosts, and now sit 17th in the table.
Leeds United hit five past Newcastle United at Elland Road on Wednesday to returned to winning ways in the Premier League.
The visitors took the lead midway through the first half after Jeff Hendrick tapped the ball in at the back post following a flick-on from Callum Wilson.
However, it did not take long for the Whites to equalise when Patrick Bamford headed the ball in from close range following Rodrigo’s header which looped onto the bar.
Rodrigo did manage to get onto the scoresheet just after the hour mark with his stooping header from a low Jack Harrison cross.
It was now the Magpies turn to equalise quickly, with Ciaran Clark heading in from a corner.
Stuart Dallas put Leeds back into the lead 13 minutes from time, sneaking in at the back post unmarked before heading past Karl Darlow.
Newcastle pushed for another equaliser but were caught on the break by Leeds who eventually worked the ball to Ezgjan Alioski who fired the ball into the roof of the net.
Leeds sealed the game three minutes later, once again breaking from a Newcastle set piece, with Harrison leading the charge before firing into the top corner from 25 yards out.
The result means Leeds jump above Newcastle in the table into 13th place.
Middlesbrough managed to grind out a 1-0 win at the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday night against Luton Town.
Chuba Akpom grabbed the only goal of the game just after half time tapping in from close range.
It was James Tavernier who sparked the move into life after a drab first half, he managed to find Marvin Johnson on left side of the box following a mazey run, who crossed low for Akpom who had an easy finish.
Luton were denied a clear opportunity to equalise following an initial save by Marcus Bettinelli, with Sam Morsy blocking in the second effort with his arm inside the penalty area.
James Collins took the penalty for the Hatters, but he managed to do what Tavernier did a few weeks ago and kick the ball off his standing foot before it went into the net, meaning the goal was ruled out and Middlesbrough hung on for three points despite having ten men.
Boro stay just outside the playoff places despite being victorious.
Managerless Bradford City picked up a point on the road against Crawley Town on Tuesday in League Two.
Lee Novak capitalised on a goalkeeping error to tap the ball in from six yards out just over ten minutes into the game.
However, the Bantams lead lasted just under 14 minutes after Harry Pritchard headed the ball into his own net following a Crawley free-kick.
In the second half it was Bradford who pushed for a winner, with Crawley ‘keeper, Glenn Morris being forced to make a couple of good stops to deny the Bantams.
The result means Bradford move up to 21st place in the league.
Huddersfield Town earnt a good point on the road against Coventry City on Wednesday night in the Championship.
It was a dull nigh at St. Andrew’s, with the best chance falling to Isaac Mbenza, who was slipped through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, choosing to take the ball round him, but could only find the side netting once doing so.
Rarmani Edmonds-Green managed to clear the ball off his own line in the second half, after the Terriers gave the ball away inside their own box, Fankaty Dabo turned the ball goalwards but neither defender nor attacker could get a meaningful touch before Edmonds-Green cleared the danger.
Huddersfield sit 14th in the Championship, seven points off the playoffs.
Hull City were victims of a late goal against Blackpool on Tuesday night, losing 3-2 at Bloomfield Road.
The Tigers did open the scoring in the match, seven minutes from half time, when Malik Wilks hooked the ball in from close range, however the hosts equalised just on half time with Jerry Yates’ sliding in to turn home a low cross to the back post.
In the second half, Keshi Anderson fired the hosts in front, but Reece Burke thought he had given the Tigers a point in the last minute of the game, after he headed in from a corner.
However, in the 93rd minute of the game, CJ Hamilton managed to place the ball into the corner of the goal after a superb move by Blackpool, giving the Tangerines all three points.
Other results mean that Hull City stay stop of League One but defeat in their next match could see the Tigers drop to fifth.
