Ridings Roundup (North, East and West Yorkshire): Leeds Humiliated in FA Cup Clash

Not a great day for Kiko Casilla and Kalvin Phillips.

Leeds United crashed out of the FA Cup on Sunday at the hands of League Two Crawley Town, who put three past stand-in goalkeeper, Kiko Casilla.

The Red Devils took the lead five minutes into the second half with Nick Tsaroulla producing a fabulous left foot strike that went under the gloves of Casilla.

Just three minutes later and the game looked out of sight for Leeds, with Ashley Nadesan drilling the ball through Casilla from a tight angle via a slight bobble off the turf.

The result really was out of sight for the Whites with 20 minutes to go, after Leeds failed to clear a deep free kick, Nadeson had his shot saved but the rebound fell to Jordan Tunnicliffe to hammer into the roof of the net.

The Whites did start the game well, testing the Crawley ‘keeper with Ian Poveda before having a penalty claim dismissed after Rodrigo appeared to have been pulled down in the box.

Crawley Town will progress to the next round of the FA Cup.

Reece Burke and co celebrate together.

In League One, Hull City earned a point from their visit to the Stadium of Light on Saturday, drawing 1-1 with Sunderland.

The Tigers were gifted an early goal after Black Cats ‘keeper, Lee Burge dropped a routine catch from a George Honeyman free kick, allowing Hull defender, Reece Burke, to pounce on the loose ball and turn it into the net.

However, the hosts got back level eight minutes later after Aiden McGeady rose highest to head past George Long from a well worked free kick.

Tom Eaves nearly put Hull back in front, but his header was inches too high and crashed off the crossbar and over.

Burke went fairly close to winning the points the second half but saw his header go wide.

The draw means that Hull are now four points off the top of the league with a game in hand.

Frustration for Jaden Brown.

A much-changed Huddersfield Town side were on the wrong end of an FA Cup shock on Saturday, losing 2-3 to Plymouth Argyle at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Romoney Critchlow gave the Terriers the perfect start, glancing in a header from a corner, but the visitors struck back midway through the first half, with Luke Jephcott sliding in Ryan Hardy who finished well past Ben Hamer.

Huddersfield did go back in front eight minutes later through one of the best goals scored over the weekend from Aaron Rowe, who cut inside on his left foot before rifling the ball into the top corner from 25 yards out.

However, Panutche Camara equalised three minutes before Argyle took the lead in the second half through Joe Edwards who tapped the ball into an empty net after a great Danny Mayor run into the Terriers penalty area.

The result sees Plymouth Argyle gain entry to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The Boro players looked dejected after going a goal down against the Bees.

Middlesbrough were not able to produce a second half comeback against Brentford on Saturday in the FA Cup.

The Bees opened the scoring ten minutes before half time, with Halil Dervisoglu scuffing in a low strike from a corner.

Substitute, Sam Foralin, equalised for Boro early in the second half, making the most of Patrick Roberts’ deflected strike and turning it into the back of the net from six yards out.

However, midway through the second half, Saman Ghoddos broke into the Middlesbrough box, before moving the ball onto his right foot and curling a low shot past debutant goalkeeper, Jordan Archer.

Up until the goal, Boro were in the ascendancy in the first half, with Chuba Akpom and Marcus Browne producing good saves by Luke Daniels.

Roberts did create a late chance to equalise for the visitors, but Daniels was equal to the effort thus knocking Middlesbrough out of the FA Cup.

Muldoon puts Harrogate a goal up.

Ten-man Harrogate Town collapsed at Cambridge United, losing 2-1 at the Abbey Stadium in League Two.arr

Jack Muldoon gave the Sulphurites the lead after ten minutes with a cool finish following a long ball by Connor Kirby that was flicked on by Josh March.

After being second best in the first half, the hosts came out flying after half time, but only managed to equalise on 71 minutes, with Joe Ironside tapping in Wes Hoolahan’s low cross.

Lloyd Kerry was then sent off minutes later for raising a hand to Harry Darling.

Cambridge made Harrogate pay three minutes later, with Hoolahan firing through several visiting bodies and the thick fog into the corner.

Scunthorpe's pitch, Saturday morning.

The Sulphurites find themselves in 18th place in the league. On Saturday morning, Bradford City announced that their fixture with Scunthorpe United would be postponed due to a frozen pitch.
