South Yorkshire Preview: Blades Go Head-To-Head With Premier League Giant

Updated: Oct 31, 2020

The Blades celebrate going ahead against Liverpool.

Kicking off an action-packed Saturday for football in South Yorkshire, Premier League

Sheffield United host Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

Chris Wilder is looking for his players to “pull together” after a narrow defeat last time out against Premier League champions Liverpool, at Anfield.

However, his side could hardly face a tougher task in an attempt to bounce back after defeat with visitors, Manchester City, also looking to avenge their last league fixture, a draw away to West Ham United.

Although, City may look to rotate their side off the back of a midweek Champions League trip to Marseille.

The Blades will welcome the BT Sport cameras to Bramall Lane as they search for their first win of the season.

Garry Monk and his coaching staff watches on.

Steel City rivals, Sheffield Wednesday, travel to Wycombe Wanderers for the first time since their famous League One promotion-winning match in 2012.

The Owls are yet to make their way into positive points this season after the club was issued a 12-point deduction over the summer.

After three defeats on the bounce, Wednesday are in dire need of three points.

Manager, Garry Monk, will be hoping his side can turn around their woeful form, but will have to do it without captain Tom Lees (suspension) and Aden Flint (injury).

Wycombe grabbed their first point of the season with a draw to Watford at Adams Park on Tuesday night.

However, they were unlucky not to take all three points after missing several chances throughout the game.

Wycombe are the only side in the Championship without a win this season and sit just above the Owls in the table.

Wednesday nights South Yorkshire Derby victors, Rotherham United, will travel to Stoke City in high spirits after securing their first home win of the season in style against the Owls.

A Jamie Lindsay double and a Daniel Barlaser penalty sent the Millers flying as high as the drone that stopped play moments into the match.

Daniel Barlaser rifles the ball into the net.

The win lifted Rotherham four points clear of the drop zone and 13 points clear of rivals Wednesday.

Rotherham’s opponents, Stoke City, were defeated 2-0 by Swansea City in their last match and will be without goalkeeper Adam Davies after he went off injured during their midweek clash in South Wales.

A win for the Millers will see them rise above the hosts in the table.

New Barnsley boss, Valerien Ismael, will be looking for back-to-back wins ahead of the visit of Watford to Oakwell on Saturday.

The Tykes stormed past ten-man QPR with goals from Cauley Woodrow and Conor Chaplin before a Yoann Barbet own goal put the game to bed.

Saturday’s visitors, Watford, held Wycombe Wanderers to a 1-1 draw in midweek, despite taking the lead early in the second half through Ismaila Sarr’s strike.

Barnsley will be hoping to extend the gap between themselves and the relegation zone with a victory over the promotion-chasing Hornets.

Josef Bursik makes the save.

In League One, Doncaster Rovers will host league leaders Lincoln City at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.

Rovers were edged out by Plymouth Argyle in midweek, falling to a 2-1 defeat at Home Park.

Visitors, Lincoln City, will be full of confidence after they continued their fantastic start to the season with a 1-0 away win against Crewe Alexandra.

Doncaster will be looking to get back to winning ways and continue their promotion push this season.
