South Yorkshire Preview: Owls Search for First Win Under Pulis

The Royals will visit Hillsborough on Wednesday night.

Sheffield Wednesday’s search for a first win under new boss, Tony Pulis, continues Wednesday when they host Reading at Hillsborough, in the Championship.

The Owls drew 0-0 with Stoke City in one of the worst spectacles of the season, with neither side creating a meaningful chance.

Visitors, Reading, scored three times in the second half on Saturday, beating Bristol City 3-1 with goals from Ovie Ejaria, Yakou Meite and Lucas Joao.

Unbelievably, Reading have a different manager in charge at Hillsborough for a league match for a seventh consecutive season – Adkins, Clarke, Stam, Clement, Gomes, Bowen and Paunovic.

Pulis has won his last four league matches against Reading, winning with Stoke (one win) and Middlesbrough (three wins).

Wednesday have not lost consecutive home league matches against Reading since December 2009.

Jack Walton hammers the ball up the pitch.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Barnsley travel to St. Andrews as they face Birmingham City on Tuesday night.

The Tykes were defeated last time out, losing 2-1 to Blackburn Rovers, with Romal Palmer grabbing a consolation goal for the Reds, whilst hosts, Birmingham City, drew 0-0 at the weekend, at home to Millwall.

Birmingham have won their last two league matches against Barnsley, last winning three in a row against the Tykes between 2000 and 2006 (six in a row).

Barnsley have lost just two of their last 15 matches in December in all competitions (W6 D7) and have lost none of their last five games in the festive month (W2 D3).

Ladapo and Ihiekwe celebrate.

And finally, Rotherham United take on Brentford at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Millers will be hoping for a similar performance as to last time out, where they drew 2-2 with highflying Bournemouth with two goals from Freddie Ladapo.

Vitaly Janelt and Ivan Toney got onto the scoresheet at the weekend in Brentford’s 2-1 win over QPR.

After going six midweek league games without a defeat (W4 D2), Rotherham have lost each of their last two, a 0-1 defeat to Luton and a 2-3 loss to QPR.

Brentford are looking to win consecutive away league matches against Rotherham United for the first time since February 1999.
