Sheffield Wednesday picked up their first home win of the season, whilst ending AFC Bournemouth’s unbeaten run in the Championship, on Tuesday night.

Contrary to recent form, Wednesday came out firing from the opening minutes, hurt from recent results and performances.

The Owls got what their efforts deserved 20 minutes from time when a superb ball from Barry Bannan picked out Josh Windass, who rounded goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, before being taken down by Steve Cook.

Cook was subsequently off and Bannan stuck away the penalty minutes later.

Wednesday hung on despite wing-back Kadeem Harris being sent off after a coming together with Jefferson Lerma.

The win, plus the six points added back onto their tally on Wednesday night by the EFL, moves the Owls onto five points whilst the Cherries drop two places to fifth.

Junior Hoilett gives the Bluebirds an early lead.

Pigott thought he had scored the scored the winner seven minutes from time, smashing the ball into the net from just outside the six-yard-box.

But Rovers equalised again, this time in stoppage time, through legendary midfielder James Coppinger, whose strike deflected in past the Dons’ ‘keeper.
