Doncaster Rovers were victorious at the Keepmoat Stadium on Tuesday night, beating Swindon Town 2-1 with two goals from Reece James.

It was a game of few chances in the first half, with the away side arguably on top, but James opened the scoring two minutes after half time, firing the ball through the goalkeeper.

James sealed the game with his second goal 18 minutes from time, after being slid in one-on-one with the ‘keeper, he drilled the ball into the bottom corner.

Andy Butler managed to bring down Diallang Jaiyesimi in the box late on, who drilled the ball through the glove of Joe Lumley.

This turned out to be the last kick of the game and now Donny move into the playoff places.

Adeboyejo and Woodrow celebrate.

In the Championship, Barnsley managed to come from a goal down to win 2-1 at Oakwell against Preston North End.

The Lilywhites were a goal up inside two minutes, with Jack Walton not being able to crawl Sean Maguire’s stooping header before it crossed the line after an in-swinging corner.

Alex Mowatt’s first-time curling long-range strike put the Tykes back on level terms nine minutes into the second half after a one-two with Callum Styles.

Barnsley flipped the scoreline on its head with just ten minutes of the match left, when Cauley Woodrow slipped the ball through to Victor Adeboyejo who curled the ball into the far corner from the left side of the penalty area.

The result means Barnsley continue their great run under Valerien Ismael and move into the top half.

Adam Armstrong tucks in a late winner to sink the Millers.

Rotherham United fell to a late defeat in the Championship, losing 2-1 to Blackburn Rovers despite going a goal up at Ewood Park.

After an uneventful first half, the Millers came out fighting with Michael Smith hitting a clean first time shot across the ‘keeper into the bottom corner just after the hour mark.

Harvey Elliott equalised with just ten minutes remaining, firing past Viktor Johansson after being fed in by Adam Armstrong.

Freddie Ladapo thought he had won it for Rotherham, but he could only head into the side netting before Armstrong side-footed in the winner in the 98th minute after the Millers failed to clear a looping cross.

Rotherham sit in 20th place in the Championship outside of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Forest stun Wednesday with an early opening goal.

Sheffield Wednesday lost 2-0 to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Tuesday night in the Championship, making it their worst start under a new manager in their history.

Wednesday started poorly, conceding just four minutes in when Yuri Ribeiro drilled in a low strike from the left side of the box across Joe Wildsmith into the bottom corner.

Forest went on to seal the win just three minutes from full time after Lewis Grabban beat Tom Lees in a 50/50 challenge, the striker collected the ball before finishing into the far corner with the outside of his right foot.

In reality, the scoreline could have been much worse for the Owls, who failed to create a meaningful chance during the 90 minutes.

Chey Dunkley was forced to clear a shot off the line in the first half and Wildsmith made a couple of good stops in the second half to keep Wednesday in the game.

The result keeps the Owls at the foot of the table, but now they are seven points off safety.

Not a happy return for Dean Henderson despite his side taking the points.

Finally, on Thursday night, Sheffield United lost 3-2 to Manchester United at Bramall Lane in the Premier League.

The Blades took the lead just minutes in, with Oliver Burke blocking former loanee, Dean Henderson’s clearance inside his own six-yard box, before David McGoldrick pounced and placed the ball into the empty net.

It stayed 1-0 for 20 minutes, but it was a simple longball from Victor Lindelöf that unlocked the Blades’ defence.

Marcus Rashford took the pass in his stride, bringing the ball down with his first touch before hammering the ball through Aaron Ramsdale with his second.

Within seven minutes, the Red Devils had taken the lead, thanks to another long-range pass, this time executed by Paul Pogba.

He found Anthony Martial’s run who managed to get the ball past the onrushing Ramsdale, before poking the ball into the open goal.

Manchester United moved out of sight early in the second half after Rashford grabbed his second following a flowing move from the visitors.

Sheffield United did grab a late goal when Lindelöf headed the ball onto the back of McGoldrick’s which directed the ball into the back of the net.

The result keeps the Blades at the bottom of the Premier League on one point.
