Ridings Roundup (East and West Yorkshire): Tigers Exit the Papa John’s Trophy

Flores missed the vital spot kick.

Hull City lost 3-4 on penalties to Lincoln City at the KCOM Stadium after a 1-1 draw in Papa John’s Trophy.

Harry Anderson opened the seven minutes in after he turned in a low Anthony Scully cross.

Greg Docherty equalised on the hour mark after weaving his way through several Lincoln defenders, entering the penalty area before firing the ball into the corner.

Richie Smallwood was first to miss from the spot, having his penalty saved by Alex Palmer at full stretch down to his right hand side.

James Jones had scored Lincoln’s first penalty, but Matt Ingram managed to pull off an identical save as to the one made by Palmer, denying Lewis Montsma.

James Scott could not capitalise for Hull, seeing his penalty saved by Palmer, again down to his right.

Imps scorer Anderson was next up, but he blazed his penalty over the bar.

Substitute Bill Chadwick got the Tigers level, blasting the ball under the ‘keeper.

Scully sent Ingram the wrong way before Keane Lewis-Potter squeezed the ball through the gloves of Palmer to make it 2-2.

Jorge Grant and Callum Elder both made no mistake from the spot to send the tie to sudden death.

Brennan Johnson scored his penalty to put all the pressure on Jordan Flores, but Palmer made an excellent save across to his left hand side to deny the Tigers a spot in the semi-finals.

The result means the Tigers can now put all of their focus on gaining promotion back to the Championship.

Raphinha celebrates his goal against Everton.

In the Premier League, Leeds United could not stage a second half comeback against Everton, losing 1-2 at Elland Road on Wednesday.

The visitors opened the scoring inside the first ten minutes when Lucas Digne picked out the untracked run of Gylfi Sigurdsson who passed his shot from close range past Illan Meslier.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin doubled the Toffees lead just before half time, arriving at the back post after a corner was flicked on by Ben Godfrey into his path for a simple diving header finish.

Raphinha got one back three minutes into the second half, placing his first time shot into the bottom corner after a lay off by Patrick Bamford.

Leeds were unlucky not to equalise in the first half, with Ezgjan Alioski’s volley from the edge of the box following a corner striking the post

Robin Olsen was soon called into action, pushing over a Pascal Struijk header from a deep Kalvin Phillips free kick.

Olsen then made a terrific triple save in the second half, firstly denying Bamford’s clever flick, then pushing away the rebound, before getting up to deny Raphinha.

Jack Harrison’s super volley was the next effort to be saved by Olsen but Everton created the best chance late in the game, countering Leeds but Calvert-Lewin could only place his shot straight at Meslier.

The result means that Leeds United are 11th in the Premier League.
